Cocoa Butter Mothers - Natural Hair and Skin Care Products

Hey Prizms!  On this wonderful journey of networking and meeting different influential people in our local community here in DC, I had the pleasure of meeting Tameko Rowe, the founder of CocoaButterMothers.  CocoaButterMothers is a natural home and body care line of products made ALL NATURAL by Tameko herself.  I know for me, I'm definitely not a fan of trying to read the list of ingredients on a product and seeing synthetic chemicals in it.  Natural is always the way to go!  Find out about Tameko's entrepreneurial journey in the interview clips below:

"How was CocoaButterMothers started?  What was your motivation?"

"...I grew up in Virginia...my mom is a Southern girl and, you know, it's just normal to have a garden and to tend plants and to know about the local flora and fauna...it's always been a love and appreciation, at least for me, just a reverence for natural things..."

What are some of the struggles you faced being a young, Black entrepreneur being that you were raising capital on your own without loans?

"...You know, like, missing trips and doing that kind of stuff, you know, it sucks because...I did miss experiences and I know that but, also...I'm trying to establish a legacy...you make sacrifices for the things you want...and so for me, it was really a lot of diligence..."

Does CocoaButterMothers have any plans for the future in terms of giving back to our community?

"...I love that I've immersed myself into following my passion because it's wide-touching, and so in my love of all things natural, and of that nature, I've always wanted to be involved in birth work...for me that is what my future plans are on how I'm going to contribute to my community...being able to, as a Black woman that lives in a Black community...mothers need assistance, aid, love, and support, and the utmost care..."

Who are the most influential people you have met on your journey?

"...For me, in my particular journey...I've just been so blessed...all of the stores that I have my products sold in...are owned by Black women.  They're all influential to me, for giving me chance, for giving me a platform...in their storefronts that they've curated and generated..".

Tameko also brought a few of her best-selling products with her and we talked about each one!  I particularly loved her relaxation smoking blend of natural herbs (you can tell I got super excited in the video)!  Check them out:
